Plot Summary. It has been nearly one hundred years sense the awful war that threatened to destroy both the human, and vampire race has ended. Seeing the folly of a continued war, and with extinction lurking over the two races heads, they set out to make a pact of laws to bind both humans and vampires under a single treaty.
Treaty of Hours. 1. Vampires rule the night while humans rule the day. Neither is to venture outside after the designated times for each race. 2. If either a human or a vampire break this law then said persons who broke the law shall be put into slavery. Serving the human or vampire that discovered the criminal. An example; A vampire is caught by a human walking out in the daylight, that vampire instantly becomes indebted to said mortal and is placed into immediate slavery. 3. Slaves, under no circumstances may hurt their masters or harm/disobey them in any way. Slaves have no rights except those given to them by master. 4. Crimes committed by either side will be judged in front of a supreme court of twenty vampires and twenty humans. 5. Vampires are no longer allowed to prey on humans. humans may offer blood and receive a special license for working at night to become blood waiters. Only specialized vampire restaurants will have such waiters and only those with a license may operate. You may not harm said waiters, and they have the right to refuse to donate to customers.

Roland sighed softly as he ran over the laws in his head and checked of all those he was breaking. He glanced up at the sun and crossed one off in his mind. He chuckled. "Only one this time?" He said to himself. He had never understood the laws, nor did he care to obey them; partixcularly the one that prohibits vampires from being outside during the day. The others were justifiable, but that had always puzzled him. His mind drifted onto Killian, his best friend, a human. Killian hated the laws as well. Roland chuckled again as he ran his tongue over his underdeveloped fangs and toyed with his snowy white ponytail. "At least they help keep me from getting in trouble with the humans...." He lay back on the grass and closed his eyes. he had to admit, since the war ended, things had been far more peaceful.

Nervously Aruk darted about the street, a feeling of desperation slowly crawling up his spine. He wanted to go home, to get away from the sunlight filtering down to rest lazily on his doubling jacket but before that he had things to do. Things, any normal human could have done fine but no, his managers had voted and decided that instead of waiting for the usual shipment of bar stock, any sort of fruit that can be converted into an alcoholic beverage, they'd send out an errand boy to retrieve them. And of course, Damn his luck, they'd picked him. Now, he wasn't breaking any laws...! He had the necessary permit but it still felt wrong to him. Like at any second someone would come by and snatch him up for something.. It was a rather stupid feeling really but no matter what he thought it still felt wrong.
Sighing, Aruk adjusted the cross choker around his neck, gold eyes scanning the stores and carts et up along the road before heading out to try and decide what, exactly, was convertible. Human food all looked the same. And even after much thought and several bad experiences, he still had no fucking clue what he was looking for. "Excuse me please?" He said, defeat ringing in his voice as he stepped up to what looked like an albino human.. "I'm sorry to disturb your relaxation time but I'm having a little difficulty in deciding what is exactly..Edible here." Why did this have to be so hard? and why did they have to chose him!? He wasn't made for the human world and although he loved messing around with superstitions and the like, he was pretty clueless when it came to human tastes. Fucking vampire bars. He really needed a better job.

He glanced up lazily at the other vampire. Honestly, it depends on whatcha mean by 'edible'...." He grumbled. "All human food is the same..." He lay back, crossing his arms behind his head and closing his eyes. He didn't want to seem rude, but he wasn't sure what to make of this. Eventually, he sighed. "If you have questions," He yawned as he sat up, "then I guess I could show you to someone who could help...." He stood up and stretched, his white shirt slightly rising to expose his cold, bare stomach to the warmth of the sun. He sighed yet again, this time contentedly. He opened an eye and smiled cutely at the other vampire. "You ready to go?"

Alright, he wasn't one to judge but considering this guy was Human wasn't he insulting himself? Granted, he could be referring to the actual quality and if that was the case..? Well, humans didn't have to like the food they ate. Back when he'd been able to converse with hem, free of capture on either end, he'd often seen children complaining and whining over the selected arrangement of goods. So, he could just simply be expressing his opinion. Hard to tell but he'd rather prefer the latter than the former. Insulting ones self was a bad sign for sure. Then again, laying out in the sun and falling asleep could be equally disastrous.
Blinking restlessly he waited, pulled out of his own thoughts by the sudden resuming of the conversation. And, but he wasn't going to say this out loud, the surprisingly vampiric canines the human seemed to posses. He wasn't going to be rude. Pointing out something like that might very well turn this one against him and considering the amount of time he had left to get everything.. It was best to shut the Hell up. "Thanks, help would be greatly appreciated at this point...." Weakly, he gave the other a smile noting the way the sun touched upon pale exposed skin and the way he seemed to be able to change appearances rather quickly. He had gone from lazy and almost rude to completely at ease and a little...cute? "Uh, yes I believe so. Oh, and I'm Aruk by the way."

Roland smiled again. "I'm Roland, nice to meet ya!" He shoved his hands into his pockets. "I'd be glad to help. After all, it's nice to see another vamp out in the sunlight." He looked up at the sun one last time before turning around. He glanced first at Aruk, then at the road. "Let's see...." He looked up at the sky, trying to remember where exactly this man who could help was. "Umm...... This way!" He began to walk down the road, occasionally stopping and looking back to make sure the other vampire was following.

Roland, what a unique name. It was so simple, easy to remember, but not so common that you could easily get it confused and if they had met under different circumstances he would have been happy to sit and discuss the nature behind it and how exactly he came to receive it. However, the circumstances weren't different and with a stutter of surprise he ran after the proclaimed vampire. "Wait! Hold on a second! you're a Vampire...?!" Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut, Roland could very well be on assignment as well but something about this man told him otherwise. W-was he a slave then? It was common for Vampires to get caught and it really wouldn't be that big of a deal but...... what if he wasn't and, what if he didn't have permission to be outside?
"I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude but what exactly are you doing outside? Are you on vacation or working on something special? I'm only here to snag a few groceries for the bar I work for so i'm more than a little curiouse as to what else could drag one of us out." Aruk should really learn to keep his mouth shut. After all, it was because of him that he might actually get the orders in on time and consequently, keep his job. Not that he really liked it, being around a bunch of drunk ass Vampires tended to get on his nerves more and more, but he really needed the money and it was one of the few jobs that let him keep an ear out for global events. Funny, how drunk people loved to talk and banter.

He stopped and turned around to face Aruk, he raised an eyebrow curiously. "So they fooled you too, huh? My fangs?" He sighed "Well, the reason I'm out here is because I LOVE being out in the sun. Not only that, but the fact that my hair turned white when I was transformed and my underdeveloped fangs keep my vampirism secret." He hated to be so blunt, but he hated talking about his underdeveloped fangs even more. Those damnable humanlike canines barely able to pierce the skin of a tough apple, let alone the skin of a human. He sighed yet again. "It's a curse, really... These underdeveloped fangs... Sure, they help me blend in with the humans, but they're absolutely useless for hunting. Luckily for me, I've got a human friend who'll willingly give me his blood. Not only that, but my hair changed colors, too!" He held up his ponytail. "It USED to be black!" He dropped his hair and sighed yet again. He knew he was ranting, but he couldn't help it. He turned around, not even bothering to wait for an answer, and continued to walk down the road.

Th-This guy...? Roland..? What was up with him didn't he understand the laws? Was he not aware of the consequences of breaking them?! Slavery, especially for a Vampire, was a long and horrible burden. Humans may not live long, but they could always pass down a slave or hand them off to another. Slaves had no rights and while slavery wasn't exactly what everyone thought it was, it wasn't exactly a walk int he park. And while he did feel for the guy, having underdeveloped fangs was pretty much an embarrassment, he had to enforce it. If the laws were so easily ignored there could be another war. Another bloodshed and Aruk couldn't let that happen. Besides, the way this guy was talking about humans sounded awfully insulting. No one 'Hunted' anymore. "Listen, i get where you are coming from but there are rules and white hair and small fangs otherwise you CAN'T be here. Can't be outside like this and if that Human friend of yours isn't your master than I'm going to have to turn you in. Those are the laws."
Why did he feel so guilty..? Even as he stumbled after the white haired Roland knowing full well the anger he probably aroused in the man. But wait, if he did report him didn't that mean he would have to be indebted and in-slaved to him..?! Aruk didn't want a slave, he just wanted to get some fucking groceries and leave but he couldn't just ignore this..! not when it could very well end with both- Er, all three of them counting his little 'friend' in slavery. Maybe he could just look the other way..? No, dammit that went against what he believed in and as nice and , mostly, polite as this other Vamp was, he couldn't just let him be. but, even through all these thoughts he couldn';t help but wonder what exactly Roland looked like with black hair. Seemed, rather odd that his hair would change and- "alright off subject but aren't Albino humans rare? Shouldn't that attract more attention to you..?"

Roland stopped when he heard Aruk say that he would turn him in. His eyes widened and a strange sense of fear shot through him. He almost felt like breaking down and crying. He didn't want to say it, but he was absolutely terrified of what officers of the law would do to him if he was caught. "Y-you..." he struggled to find exactly what words he could say to him. "Y-you can't turn me in like that.... I-I mean sure, I'm breaking the 'law', b-but what's the point in obeying it anyway? N-nobody around here seems to care, especially Killian..." He wasn't sure if it was exactly smart to reveal the name of his friend, but he had to defend himself.
He found himself getting somewhat angry with this other vampire. "And Killian wouldn't ENSLAVE me like that!" He slowly began to back away, his soft grey eyes still wide and refusing to drift away from Aruk. If the vampire made any moves to try and catch him, he'd be ready to make a break for Killian's shop. no one had ever threatened him like that, but he wasn't just going to shrug it off so easily.

It should have been expected, the sudden switch in attitude, but it still came as a bit of a surprise to Aruk. Just seeing Roland like that made his heart clench. The fear of enslavement was clear along with the fact that this one, this Roland, had never actually considered getting caught before. Did he really think he was that safe..? Or did he really think being outside of hours wasn't that big of deal? It was hard to tell but in the end it didn't matter. No matter how guilty he felt, no matter how scared and unsure Roland seemed to feel it was the law. H-He didn't want a slave. Hell, being hated for all eternity wasn't exactly something to he'd put on his to-do list either but did he really have a choice in the matter? Obviously, Roland was either to young to understand the laws or he was too naive. The consequences of breaking the treaty were harsh but it was for a good reason. If the humans didn't feel secure enough, if they felt threatened, they'd attack. Simple human/prey response.
"Killian, that's your friends name is it not? Well, I'm glad you found someone, a human, that you could talk to without prejudice but you're putting him in danger. Do you know what will happen to him if you are caught? If someone else finds out that he is hiding you from the police he'll be forced into slavery too or at least pushed into federal prison. I'm sorry Roland, I know it sucks. It isn't fair of me to do this especially after you offered to help but I can't just let you go. You're putting the both of you in danger, and even some other people as well. I think you may be younger than I expected but that's still not an excuse Roland.." God, he really was young wasn't he..? Well, maybe for a Vampire... C-Coyuld he really force someone so new, a fledgling, into slavery..? What was he supposed to do..?

Roland fell to his hands and knees, allowing a few cold tears to slip down his cheeks. Aruk was right. It WAS dangerous for Killian to be protecting him like this, and it WAS dangerous for him to wander around in sunlight in plain view of the humans. Still, he couldn't stand it. He couldn't stand being in the dark constantly, wondering what it would be like to walk among humans again. He glanced up at the other vampire, wiping the tears from his eyes. "You don't get it, do you? I'm not YOUNG.... I'm not NEW.... Dammit, I'm over 400 years old!!... I'm just.... Naive..... I became a vampire when I was only 19 and I just hate change... I mean, less than a hundred years ago, what I'm doing would've been perfectly fine! But now...."
More tears fell from his eyes as he thought of what might happen to he and Killian if they were found out. He looked down, unsure of what he would say next.

Four hundred years..? Well, maybe he had miscalculated a bit but that didn't change things. Roland and Killian were breakign the law, big time, and it only seemed to accur to them now that their freedom was compromised. It was sad, pathetic to an extent. but that didn't stop him from feeling bad. A drastic change like this was hard to accomidate too. Expecialy after you weere used to walking around in the sun and talkign with others. This deal had forced many people apart, seperating the two species even further. Great, now he was critisising the one thing that had kept them all at peice for so long. But just seeing Roland on the ground like that, so defeated... It was inhuman to force something like this on another... Was it really his choice..?
Sighing, Aruk stepped forward, knealing before Roland and as carefully as he could, pulling him into a gentle embrace. This was so stupid. roland wasn't new to this, he should have understood but was it really right of him to just hand him over into slavery? Shit, he was so guilty and confused. Maybe, just this once he could ignore the rules? Just a little..? If Roland stopped coming out into the sun then there wouldn't be any problem right? "Roland? I'm on a really tight schedual here you know? So, if you just give me your word that during daylight hours you'll stay behind your friends doors I'll have to loojk the other way." what the Hell was he doing? He didn't even know Roland! Why was he even bothering to try and fix this guy?

Roland's eyes had widened when the other vamp had hugged him. But as he heard what Aruk had to say, he closed his eyes and hugged him back. "Y-you'd really do that?" he said with slight disbelief. "You'd really look the other way?" he couldn't help but shed tears of joy for what he heard. He still had difficulties believing it, but he wasn't about to pass it up. He pulled out of the embrace and raised his right hand, grinning widely. "I promise to stay in Killian's shop during the day, okay?"

What the Hell had he gotten himself into! This was a stranger Dammit and he was risking his own freedom here! Yet, like the sappy idiot he was, Aruk couldn't bring himself to feel bad about it. OK, that wasn't exactly true he DID feel bad but it wasn't due to the fact that he could possible be sent to work under a Master. It was more of.. Well, the fact that in less than five minutes Roland had managed to sway him into giving up the one major rule he'd forced himself to protect over the years. It was rather disturbing but what was more so was the fact Roland just so easily accepted it; like rules weren;t a big deal here. That, was more than a little worrying and now, God this day sucked, he was having second thoughts. But, it was a little too late and cruel to take back his word now.
"Alright, I'm glad that you agree with me and promise and all that but, we need to get out of here. Now before someone actually comes over here instead of just staring us down." Sheepishly, he dragged Roland to his feet hoping to disperse the small crowd that had gathered off to the side. They weren't exactly close enough to hear anything but that could change in an instant and considering his fangs weren't exactly disguised.. Ya, it could get bad pretty fast and really, it didn't matter that he had a permit because as soon as people suspected he was a Vampire they'd immediately start suspecting Roland. not a situation they wanted to find themselves in. Oh, and he was going to be late for his delivery if things didn't get a move on. "OK, starting your now your promise is enabled. So if you wouldn't mind coming with me we can ditch the crowd and work things out from there."
